Eugene M. Johnson, Jr., Ph.D.
Professor Emeritus, Neurology and Developmental Biology, Washington University Medical School, St. Louis, Missouri

Dr. Johnson received his undergraduate degree in pharmacy (1966) and graduate degree in medicinal chemistry (1970) training at the University of Maryland, and postdoctoral training in pharmacology at Washington University. His major research interests are in the discovery, biology, and pharmacology of neurotrophic factors and in the molecular mechanisms of neuronal cell death.

Dr. Johnson has served on the scientific advisory boards of several foundations focused on neurodegenerative diseases (e.g., Michael J. Fox Foundation, Alzheimer’s Association, Glaucoma Research Foundation, A-T Children’s Project), on the National Advisory Council on Aging (NACA) for the National Institute on Aging, and as a consultant and/or SAB member to several pharmaceutical and biotech companies. He holds several patents on the discovery and use of neurotrophic factors. He is an elected Fellow of the American Academy for the Advancement of Science.
